It is well known from the ancient times that Ithaka is not an easy place to reach, but at the end of a long trip it’s really worth it!!
By plane
Two flights depart daily from Athens International Airport to Kefallonia Island, Argostoli; one early in the morning and the other early evening.
From Argostoli you have to reach the small port of Sami (26 km) either by bus (every hour from Argostoli bus station) or by taxi. From the port of Sami you have to take the ferry that brings you finally to Ithaca; there are four trips per day and its only only 30 mins sailing time.
By Ferry
Ithaca is linked by ferry with the main port of Patras twice a day, morning and evening. There are also daily ferry connections from the port of Astakos and from the island of Lefkada, time schedule should be checked as there are frequent changes...
Numerous ferries from Bari, Brindisi and Ancona make calls at Kefallonia Island from where you can take any of the ferries from Sami to come accros to Ithaca.
By Car
You can reach Patras from Athens (220 km) either by car or by coach. From Athens central coach station you can board one that arrives just in front of the ferry and (most important) the ferry does not sail if the coach has not arrived, so you can be sure not to miss it !!! Astakos and Lefkada are 290km and 370km away from Athens, respectively.
